A first-of-its-kind, shared-value partnership

In 2018, LIXIL and UNICEF launched  ‘Make a Splash!’ It is UNICEF’s first global shared-value partnership in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The partners both bring value and co-create activities, combining UNICEF’s WASH sector leadership with LIXIL’s global expertise in design and innovation. As UNICEF seeks to improve demand for and create policies to support universal access to safely managed sanitation, we are working to expand sustainable supply chains and the availability of our safe, affordable, and appealing products so communities and households can improve and sustain their own sanitation solutions. 

The partnership started in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, and in the first three years impacted 2.9 million people who gained access to sanitation and hygiene. It has since expanded to India, Indonesia, and Nigeria. This expansion will ensure more children, their families, and communities can access our affordable, durable, and award-winning toilet and handwashing solutions.

Contributing to UN SDG 6

The ‘Make a Splash!’ partnership demonstrates how businesses, together with UNICEF, governments, non-governmental organisations, and communities can help develop sustainable sanitation markets and affordable toilets and hygiene solutions for everyone. Working together is the best way to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) to ensure safe sanitation for all by 2030.  The expanded ‘Make a Splash!’ partnership aims to impact an additional 5.8 million people by the end of 2023.
