CREATING SKILLED JOBS FOR LOCAL WOMEN

Our award-winning products are breaking down the barriers to women being able to improve their own sanitation and hygiene. Around the world, women and girls are disproportionately affected by poor sanitation and hygiene – a lack of privacy, access to clean water, and an increased risk of infection all create additional hardships. However, they are determined and dedicated to changing the sanitation landscape. According to a survey by “What Women Want,” which obtained responses from 1.2 million women and children in 114 countries, improved access to WASH is women’s second highest demand in relation to maternal and reproductive care. That is why we have partnered with UNICEF to scale access to our tap and toilet products in communities where women’s health is adversely affected by poor access to sanitation.

Across Asia and Africa, we are empowering women with the skills they need to continually improve and maintain sanitation. Not only does this provide significant benefit to their own lives and those of their neighbours, but also provides opportunities for long-term employment. SATO’s market-based approach creates opportunities for women in emerging economies – many of whom may feel limited to working in the fields or the home. With SATO, female entrepreneurs are establishing and operating their own successful sanitation businesses, learning to distribute, sell, and even install the products.
