Expansion into West Africa
While Senegal has made progress in improving hygiene and sanitation, challenges remain. According to the World Bank, only 49.4% of the population had access to basic sanitation services in 2020. This means that a significant portion of the population still lacks access to safely managed sanitation facilities, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
Furthermore, 64% of the population in Senegal had access to basic hygiene services in 2020, which includes facilities for handwashing with soap and water at home. This highlights the need for continued investment in water and sanitation infrastructure, as well as access to proper handwashing and other preventative measures.
Our partners
SATO, a social business focused on sanitation solutions, is strengthening its presence in Senegal through new partnerships. Alternativ and BEFAM Scoops, a division of ADEMAS Senegal, have joined as licensed importer/distributors. This strategic move aims to establish a robust and dependable supply chain for SATO products within the country. By leveraging the success of previous USAID sanitation initiatives in Senegal, these partnerships will further contribute to improved sanitation access and outcomes.
