Since our inception in 2012, we have impacted 35 million lives, having produced, and shipped more than 6.5 million units across 44 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. SATO’s ability to transform sanitation and hygiene on a global scale has been aided by partnerships with local manufacturers, NGOs, intergovernmental organisations (such as UNICEF, USAID and JICA).

Our designs are tailored to address the specific challenges facing communities with poor sanitation and hygiene infrastructure, with our toilet systems saving more than 80% of water per flush as compared to conventional toilets, and our Tap consuming less than 90% of the water used by traditional taps.

Responding to a problem, with a solution

Our product line is facilitating a global revolution in hygiene and sanitation, and we have received international awards for our designs, reflecting their practicability and affordability. The SATO Toilet solutions won the Red Dot Design Award, and the SATO Tap was recognised
by TIME as among the “Best Inventions of 2020”, also being shortlisted at the 2021 Fast Company World Changing Ideas Awards.

Poverty is the root cause of poor sanitation, so we have worked hard to develop a solution which is effective but, crucially, accessible to the poorest communities. That’s why the SATO pan is made from a durable polypropylene material which ensures longevity, allows for mass production, and can be transported easily without breakage.
